Capital Cities Stepping Stone Game
Version 2.9
This is a game about your knowledge of United States geography and the latitude and longitude at which the capital city of each state is located.
You only need to figure out the "relative
location" of each of the cities with respect to each other in latitude and longitude. (See Figure 1)
For example:
- Which capital city is located farthest East? Farthest West? Farthest North? Farthest South?
- Is Des Moines, IA, farther north or south than Denver, CO?
- Is Olympia, WA, farther east or west than Sacramento, CA?
- Is Augusta, ME, farther north or south than Salem, Oregon?
- Is Tallahassee, FL, farther east or west than Columbus, OH?
- If you are located at the "latitude" of the capital of Missouri, which other state capital is next in latitude to the North? - to the South?
- If you are located at the "longitude" of the capital of Nebraska, which other state capital is next in longitude to the East? - to the West?
Game Rules
- Each capital city is like a "stepping stone" on the map of the United States.
- In this game, you may only move (step) from a capital city ... to the next-Northern, next-Southern, next-Eastern, or next-Western capital city.
(See Figure 1)
- The primary objective is to be able to travel from a starting capital to a target capital with the least number of steps.
- From the West-most city, for example, you can keep moving east and in 49 steps get to the East-most city.
But you can also get there with fewer steps by taking north and south steps along the way.
